Review: Fuji Xerox CP115w

After searching through the net for practical reviews about printers, I finally decided to buy this compact laser printer, Fuji Xerox CP115w. I was not really satisfied with most online reviews as they usually describe the technical specifications but never the actual usage. So here I decided to come up with my own review based on my actual printing experience. Why Fuji Xerox CP115w? I was looking for an affordable color laser printer with quality print outputs. Based on my experience as a graphic designer, I am very meticulous when it comes to print quality. Only two brands meet my standard: Epson and Fuji Xerox. Epson has laser printers but range from PHP 10,000+ for an A4 size maximum paper handling. So when I found out about CP115w and checked on it online and its availability in stores, I decided that I should go with it. Fuji Xerox CP115w is available in the following stores: 1. Office Warehouse 2. Silicon Valley 3. Octagon I bought mine from Office Warehouse with a retail price of PHP 4,999.00 last December 2016. General Specifications For detailed specs, please visit this Fuji Xerox’s official site. As stated in the quick facts from the printer’s website:

Print speed: 10ppm color / 12ppm monochrome
Print resolution: 1200 x 2400 dpi
Mobile connectivity: AirPrint
Eco-friendly with S-LED print engine technology and EA-Eco toner
Honestly, I could only care about the print speed and print resolution. I haven’t really tried printing through mobile devices as I have a hard time figuring out how to connect the printer to wifi. So far, here are my comments according to my experience. I tried printing on different papers and boards: 80gsm plain paper, Bevania 300gsm board, Biotop 120gsm paper, 200gsm and 250gsm coated papers and found its limitation on media weight.
Pros Sharp graphic print output Sharp text print output especially with black color Sharp print output on coated card stock, plain paper, pearlescent specialty paper Fast printing Quick warm up time Allows printing on recycled paper Cons Maximum media weight limited to 163 gsm only (as mentioned in the PDF manual) No instruction on the manual about setting up printing through wifi Limited media types on the printer’s page setup

Butterfly design printed (black) on Biotop 120gsm paper
I am satisfied with everything this printer could do most especially its sharp and vibrant prints, but a bit disappointed of the limited media weight. But through test printing on various paper and boards, I have learned that it could print on 200gsm and 250gsm Imari coated papers, and 200gsm Zanzibar boards. Despite this printer’s limitation on paper weight, this particular model still meets my expectation on quality print outputs.

Update:

The price for toner cartridges as of September 2017 from Office Warehouse:

Cyan/Magenta/Yellow - PHP 2,199 (per color)
Black - PHP 3,299

  1. Wow! Thanks for posting this. Planning on buying a laser printer for printing and foiling wedding invitations. I'm from the Ilocos, so I was so happy to find a review by someone from the PH. Just a question though, do you have an estimate on how much it costs to print a full color page (in terms of toner cost vs output)? Just to give me an idea if it will be a feasible investment for an invitation making business. Thanks in advance!

  2. Hi! Did you select lightweight cardstock when you printed on the imari 250gsm?

    1. Hello, Miez! Since Imari is a coated paper, I choose Lightweight Glossy Cardstock from the printer's Paper Type. It comes out fine when printed.

    2. So it's fine to print a 230 gsm paper? And how about photo paper for laser printers? Thanks in advance!

    3. Hello, Aud Pet!

It can't print on 230 gsm paper (almost board type), due to thickness. The printer can't pull the paper in its feed.

And it toasts the photo paper. Best to use inkjet for photo papers.

    4. Hello again, Aud Pet!

Kindly check this post where I wrote about printing with some types of paper (and board):

      http://somerandomlines.blogspot.com/2017/10/printing-with-fuji-xerox-cp115w.html

I think it depends also on the brand. Some papers, though the same in their gsm (weight), can't be printed by the CP115 laser printer probably because of the thickness and heavier weight. So it's really a trial and error to find the best papers compatible with this printer.

  4. Hi,

Thanks for the review! How long did it take until you bought new cartridges, madali ba syang maubos or long lasting talaga na abot ng several months or year since ang mahal ng cartridge. I have yet to own a laser printer, is the print quality of this laser printer so much better than inkjet? Hope you can still reply.

  5. Hello!

    1. Hello! Usually lumalabas yung exclamation pt kapag may paper jam, or di mahila ng printer yung paper or kung out of ink na yung printer.

Kung may ink naman at hindi paper jam, most likely, hindi mahila ng printer yung papel. Makapal ba paper na gamit mo? Nangyari sakin kasi yan sakin, kapag 200gsm++ na kapal ng papel or cardstock, di nya mahila.

Bitten By A Cat

I have never imagined that I would need to get anti-rabies vaccine and boosters one day. Last Saturday, I was playing with our pet cat when suddenly she got pissed and bit me on my left hand. I immediately washed my bitten hand with running water and soap. I let it bleed because that is what people say when you are bitten by an animal. They say it would let the bacteria out, though I was not really sure about it. I even put on crushed garlic on my wound. Two hours later, I went to the FEU-NRMF ER with my fiance to have my wound checked, just to be safe. The doctor cleaned my wound and a few minutes later I was given some injections: Anti-rabies vaccine (Verorab) and Tetanus Toxoid. I was also tested for skin allergy for 30 minutes before they gave me the Anti-Tetanus vaccine. So here how it goes, in case anyone is bitten by an animal. When one is bitten by an animal, whether it is vaccinated or not, wash the wound immediately with soap and water, and go to the nearest ER or Anima...

Printing with Fuji Xerox CP115w

Printing with CP115w On my previous article about the Fuji Xerox CP115w color laser printer, I mentioned the things I like and not like about it, and the features that I hope it could do. One of the things that I hope this printer could do is to handle thicker paper/board. It is only limited to 163 gsm paper weight. So if anyone is printing on 200+ gsm paper using this printer, expect that it cannot even pick up the paper into its rollers. Here are the following brands and weights that I have tried printing with the CP115w and wouldn’t work: Sonoma 230gsm Olympia Metallic 230gsm Zanzibar 230gsm But it could print (though with some effort) on the following papers: Imari Coated Papers 200gsm/250gsm Zanzibar 200gsm The Imari Papers, though seem heavier in weight, appears thin compared to the other boards and can get through the printer without hassle. Consumables The consumables available in the Philippine market are the standard ones and mostly are available in Of...
